Backups and restore

Your data is copied, kept apart, and given back when you ask

A backup is only worth what a restore is worth. Managed Cloud takes the copies on a schedule, keeps them away from the system they came from, and puts your data back for you when something has gone wrong.

In short

  • Scheduled, not requested
  • Kept off-site
  • Restored by our team
  • Checked, not assumed
What the service does

Automated backups and restore

Copies of your business data are taken on a schedule and kept away from the system they came from. When you need one back, you ask us and we do the restore.

Taken on a schedule

Copies run automatically at an agreed time. Nobody on your side has to remember, and nothing depends on a member of staff being in the building.

Kept away from your system

Backups are stored separately from the system that produced them, so a problem in one place cannot reach the copies of the other.

More than one point in time

We keep a rolling set of copies rather than a single latest one. If a bad change went unnoticed for a few days, there is still something clean to go back to.

Restored by us, not by you

You raise a restore request through the portal or by phone. Our team performs it and confirms the result with you. You never work through a recovery procedure on the worst morning of your month.

Verified, not assumed

A copy that cannot be read is not a backup. Restores are exercised so the process is known to work before the day you actually need it.

A history you can see

The portal lists what was taken and when, so you can confirm your position without asking anyone.

In scope

What is covered

Everything the business depends on to trade tomorrow morning.

  • Your tenant database, in full, including transactions, stock and ledgers
  • Uploaded files: product images, staff documents, receipts and attachments
  • Configuration, permissions and the branding applied to your account
  • The record of when each copy was taken and whether it completed
How it works

How a restore actually goes

Three steps, and we do two of them.

  1. You tell us what went wrong

By phone if it is urgent, or through the portal if it is not. Tell us roughly when things were last correct. You do not need to know which backup you want.

  2. We pick the point and confirm it with you

We identify the copy that matches what you described and tell you exactly what will come back and what will not, before anything is changed.

  3. We restore, then check it with you

The restore is performed by our team and you confirm the data looks right before we close the request.

The point of it

What your team never has to do

  • Remember to run a backup at close of business
  • Look after an external drive, or wonder where last month's copy went
  • Follow a recovery procedure while customers are waiting
  • Find out that the backup was failing quietly for six weeks
Questions

Asked and answered

If yours is not here, ask us directly. We would rather have the conversation than have you guess.

On a schedule agreed with you when your account is set up, and confirmed in your service level agreement. The right cadence depends on how much you trade in a day, so it is a conversation rather than a number on a web page.

We keep a rolling window rather than one latest copy, and the length of that window is set out in your agreement. Tell us if you need to hold copies for longer for audit reasons and we will price it in.

Yes. Your data is yours and exports are available whenever you want them, including if you ever leave the service. Backups are our safety net, not a way of holding your records.

The contacts you nominate on your account. We verify the request before we act on it, because a restore overwrites live data and is not something we take on a single email.
